Earlier this month Southwest Airlines received the all clear from the Federal Aviation Administration to begin service to Hawaii from California. Not only does this give you and your loved ones more options to travel to and from the islands, but it also increases the likelihood of overall cost of fares lowering!

The Dallas-based airline began promoting service to Hawaii from California in the first week of February after it successfully completed a test flight to the island of Oahu and clearing all regulatory hurdles. Although specific routes are not yet available, the airline intends to offer non-stop service to Hawaii from Oakland, San Diego, San Jose, and Sacramento. Their destinations on the islands include Honolulu, Kahului, Kona, and Lihue, and the carriers intends to provide inter-island service as well.

Southwest also claims that they expect to begin service with low introductory fares, which other carriers would have to compete with. This means fares to and from California from all airlines might be driven down in order to compete with Southwest. Whether you travel for vacation or business, you might expect lower fares as we move farther into 2019.
