About Makakilo Real Estate
In the olden days of Hawaii, Kahuna Kilolanis or Hawaiian priests came to the peaks to observe the sky and interpret messages deemed to be sent by their ancestors and the gods. The hills of which these Kahunas settled and practiced their vocation have developed into what is now known as Makakilo region. The name given to the area, Makakilo, meaning “observing eye”, befits its location and history. The town is situated at the Ewa district and rests atop Kapolei, also known as the “Second region” of O’ahu. The scenery at Makakilo is tremendous with its overlooking view of the Pacific and its nearby areas including Waikiki and the entire Pearl Harbor.
The development of Makakilo began in the 1960s with homes initially built below the hill, slowly progressing towards the top. This move has brought upon two sections of the region, the upper and the lower sections; with the lower section consisting of older homes and larger lots, and the upper section having newer homes resting on higher land, gaining full advantage of the cooler breeze.
Makakilo is a popular place for investors buying their second homes for vacationing or renting out, which is especially true for condos being purchased here. The price of the condos currently being sold go as low as $60,000 and as high as $5.5M. Most of them come with a great view of Diamond Head and the ocean.
Homebuyers can buy single-family homes with contemporary and mid-century Hawaiian features and are generally designed with 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms at a price that ranges from $600,000 up to $23M. Single-family homes selling for higher prices already contain a number of amenities and inclusions such as an indoor pool and patio.
Although few in number, multi-family homes and lots are also being sold; with the price of multi-family homes ranging from $490,000 to $37M, and lots ranging from $850,000 up to $37M.
