Salt Lake Oahu Overview
Salt Lake is a neighborhood of Honolulu, Hawaii located on the Island of Oahu. It is commonly referred to as Aliamanu by locals due to its close proximity to a nearby crater sharing the name. The neighborhood derived its name from a crater, Āliapa‘akai, which was filled with water and evaporated leaving behind a high concentration of salt, to the point where salt formations developed around its edges.
Today, Salt Lake is surrounded by a number of Military Installations. The headquarters for the United States Army Pacific is located in nearby Fort Shafter, the United States Air Force Pacific headquarters is in Hickam Air Force Base and Pearl Harbour is home to the United States Pacific Fleet.
Salt Lake offers its residents easy access to nearby Honolulu, as well as other main areas on the Island of Oahu. With a wide variety of real estate options as well as amenities, the area is a popular choice for buyers of all types.

For Military Families, the Navy Exchange Mall offers a variety of shopping and dining. For those who enjoy a round of golf, Salt Lake is home to a number of golf courses that offer varying degrees of difficulty with some of the best views in the world. The Honolulu Country Club is a course designed by golf legend Arnold Palmer and Francis Duane and opened in 1977. The course is well kept and offers a variety of dining and entertaining options at its beautiful clubhouse. The Moanalua Golf course is located just across the H201 and features challenging greens and a stunning landscape. Enjoy a drink and some delicious foods with friends at the restaurant and clubhouse after a round. For Military personnel, the Navy Marine golf course is a popular choice. Greens that appeal to golfers of all ability levels, the course is complemented by its excellent staff and clubhouse.
There is an abundance of parks and greenspace dotted throughout the neighborhood of Salt Lake that offer residents a chance to get outside and enjoy nature.
The Salt Lake District Park, the largest park in the neighborhood, features miles of hiking trails up and around the Aliamanu and Āliapa‘akai craters. The park is home to basketball and tennis courts, ample greenspace, a gymnasium and a 50 meter swimming pool, making the perfect place to spend the afternoon with family and friends. The Ala Puumalu Community Park is set to the east of Salt Lake and is home to basketball and tennis courts as well as a large section of greenspace ideal for walking a pet or riding your bike. Hoa Aloha Park is a large community park that features off leash dog areas, plenty of well kept green space and children’s play area. Salt Lake is located in the center of a number of large roadways making access to neighboring cities and towns within Oahu a breeze. Salt Lake is ideal for those who commute or travel around the island.
The major roadway in Salt Lake is Salt Lake Boulevard which runs from Aloha Stadium in nearby Aiea to Moanalua Highschool. Salt Lake Boulevard connects on the west end to State Route 99, known as Kamehameha Highway and on the east end to State Route 66 known as Puuloa Road.
Just north of Salt Lake travellers will find access to major highways transporting drivers to all ends of the Island. H1, H3 and H201 all intersect for convenient and quick travel.
For those flying to mainland United States or other countries will enjoy a short commute to the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport which is located only 8.3 miles away from Salt Lake.
