You'll probably see and hear it a lot when you start house hunting: "the house is in escrow." But no one really tells you what that means until you get an accepted contract on a house. 

In real estate, an escrow account is a secure holding area where important terms (like earnest money, and contracts) are kept safe by an escrow agent until the deal is officially closed. The responsibility of the escrow agent is to ensure that all of the conditions of the contract are met by all parties before the sale closes.

When you're trying to buy a house, you'll often hear lenders and realtors warn against financing a new car at any stage in the process. There's a good reason for that - car loans can get out of hand really quickly. Agents are paid commission on the sales that they are a part of, but who does the money actually come from? A lot people think that the buyer and the seller each pay their respective agents, but in the state of Hawaii the buyer pays nothing. That's right, as a buyer you do not pay your agent's commission. They still owe you the same legal responsibility to look out for YOUR best interest.

Sisters Maureen Nelson and Geri Bennett will be opening D'Vine Kailua Wine Bar in the new Lau Hala Shops (where Macy's used to be) in Kailua Town.

The wine bar will offer 32 wine selections on an automated dispensing system, and will also feature a bar with wine tasting and classes. They'll also be offering bites like charcuterie plates and desserts to pair with their seasonally changing wine selections. 

Northern California natives, the two sisters grew up watching their mother make her own wines. Having passed away from breast cancer, their hope with this first restaurant concept is to honor their mother's memory, and they are looking for non-profit organizations to partner with to support cancer research and support patients and survivors.
