Pawaa is a commercial and residential neighborhood located just six minutes from the exciting downtown core of Honolulu and only five minutes from the gorgeous Ala Moana Beach and Park. The affordable homes for sale in this area are primarily made up of strata-style homes (mid-rise apartment complexes, attached townhomes, and condominium buildings). Though not completely nonexistent, there are a few detached, single-family homes in the neighborhood.

The Pawaa neighborhood is actually home to the very first approved residential condominium in Hawaii. Several condos followed after that first approval including Sandalwood, Holiday Manor, Hale Kaheka, and Bishop Manor. Some of these buildings were designed by well-known builders including Edwin Bauer, Ernest Hara, and Takashi Anbe.

The real estate costs for living in Pawaa are very affordable, making it a great home for people of all walks of life. Studio apartments can be found for approximately $219,000 and larger, two-bedroom, two-bathroom condos sell for around $525,000. The mid-rise buildings provide delightful views stretching across the city and the ocean beyond.

Living In Pawaa, Honolulu

Being located among the commercial district of Pawaa, residents have quick and easy access to just about any amenity needed in daily living. Pawaa is one of the most walkable neighborhoods in Honolulu and also has access to several methods of public transportation, including Honolulu’s fantastic bussing system, which makes getting around the neighborhood and surrounding city a breeze.

The Pawaa community is home to some beautiful park and recreation areas, all within walking distance from the many residences in the area. The McCully District Park and Pool is a bit of a hidden gem; no one expects a fantastic pool and park to be located in the heart of a commercial district. This well-maintained pool is located next to basketball and badminton courts and a soccer field. Open to the public, locals take full advantage of this lovely area.

There are also several neighborhood parks that are made up of beautiful grassy grounds, children’s playground equipment, and sports fields. Cartwright Neighborhood Park, Sheridan Community Park, Punahou Square, and Honolulu Stadium Skate Park are excellent examples of some of the great parks in the Pawaa neighborhood.

As for dining, the residents of Pawaa can find a variety of fantastic restaurants and cafes. There are a collection of unique craft breweries, authentic, ethnic eateries, as well as familiar franchise favorites in and around the neighborhood giving locals a fantastic selection of dining options so they’ll never get bored of their food.

Pawaa is filled with shops and retail options including a large Walmart Supercenter along with other small businesses and big box stores. For further shopping excursions, residents of Pawaa can venture the five minutes over to the Ala Moana Center. This massive open-air mall is the largest of its kind in the world. With four floors, four large department store anchors, and over 350 stores and restaurants to peruse, the Ala Moana Center literally has something for everyone.
